Institutional Establishment
The Southwest Ethiopia Regional Public Health Institute (SWERPHI) was formally established to serve as the technical arm of the Regional Health Bureau, specifically designed to address the unique and diverse public health profile of the South West Ethiopia Peoples' Regional State. As a newly formed region, the need for a robust, science-led institution became paramount to safeguard the health of its citizens through evidence-based interventions and advanced diagnostic capabilities.
SWERPHI operates with a clear mandate to bridge the gap between scientific research and community health outcomes. By centralizing regional surveillance, laboratory excellence, and emergency management, the institute provides a coordinated response to health threats, ranging from endemic tropical diseases to emerging global pandemics. Our establishment marks a significant milestone in the region's journey toward health self-sufficiency and digital transformation in medical data management.
Today, the institute stands as a guardian of health, leveraging modern technologies like Next.js and Supabase for data integrity, while maintaining a strong presence across all six administrative zones: Dawuro, Kaffa, Sheka, Konta, West Omo, and Bench Sheko. Through collaboration with regional stakeholders and international partners, SWERPHI continues to build a resilient health system that is proactive, data-driven, and dedicated to the well-being of every household in the South West Ethiopia Region.
